In an effort to maintain the unity of the body in what is often a divisive area, the following guidelines are given:

1. We recognize “tongues” as a spiritual gift; it is not necessarily a proof of salvation, the evidence of the filling of the Holy Spirit, a sign of spiritual maturity, or a universal experience of all believers.
2. In all things, we must strive to demonstrate love towards all regardless of their experience or lack of. All persons in the body need to be careful of any prideful or superior attitude that could result in division.
3. Because of the potential division over this issue, we do not practice “the gift of tongues” in our corporate worship services or small groups (unless specifically designated as “charismatic”).
