Know: Thursday, March 11th

The week’s memory work is John 17:1-5. It is made up of five verses. Today focus on reciting verses one, two, three and four:

When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

Set a timer throughout the day to remind yourself to repeat the verses.

Meditate on these verses:

Romans 8:28-30: And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Ephesians 1:18: [H]aving the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.

God has a plan to complete His work in us. One day we will be glorious in His Presence, living fully as He created us to be. Contemplate our future reality for eternity with God. What is our destiny in Him?

How does contemplating who we are becoming now and who we will be for eternity give you hope for today?

Meditate on Romans 8:31-39:

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What do you learn about how God is for us through Romans 8:31-39?

To follow God on the path He is leading us, requires us to believe He is for us and not against us.

Do you believe God is for you? Why or why not?

God has worked for the good of His people in community at Jacob’s Well these last 20 years. If you are struggling to understand how God is for you, let the evidence of God at work in the lives of His people encourage you forward in your journey to know and become like Jesus:

Pray: "May God the Father bless us; may Christ take care of us; the Holy Ghost enlighten us all the days of our life. The Lord be our defender and keeper of body and soul, both now and forever, to the ages of ages." Æthelwold c 908-984
